From Michelle Goldberg's book, Kingdom Coming: For opponents of the right, one of the most alarming things about the current state of our country is the fact that so many Americans fervently believe things that are objectively false - that Iraq was behind September 11, for example, or that Bill Clinton was a more profligate spender than Bush, or that the world is only a few thousand years old... What's lacking, though, isn't just truth - it's the entire social mechanism by which truth is distinguished from falsehood. Blunting Christian nationalism requires turning back toward the Enlightenment and rebuilding a culture of rationalism. Unfortunately, multitudes of Americans no longer find Enlightenment values compelling.

I am a vegetarian, an atheist, like to code in Python and noodle about with microformats and the Semantic Web. I also have a BA in philosophy from London, and am studying for an MA. My philosophical interests are in Victorian-era German philosophy, Kierkegaard, Robert Nozick, hermeneutics and current approaches to the demarcation problem in the philosophy of science. Musically, I like jazz fusion, soul and P-Funk. My musical nirvana would be a mixture of Beethoven, Miles Davis and George Clinton topped with a side-serving of Erykah, Jill and Angie.
