  No. 543

Two great links from Danny Ayers - The Semantic Web in plain English. It uses Nova's Web 1.0/2.0/3.0/4.0 thing, which I'm really not sure about. Better than that, though, is David Carlisle's htmlparse thing is great. Yes, an XSLT-based tag soup HTML parser. Woohoo! This is the best reason to get XSLT 2.0 widely adopted. Une araignée toxique pour une conférence de technologie á Paris... 2007-04-27T20:26:29ZPermalink

...or whatever. My grade 'D' French sucks.

I almost missed this corker of a story - what with being distracted trying to finish my degree - but it looks like Le Web 4 is on it's way. Ewan Spence linked to Loic's announcement of it.

Despite my shit storm stirring last December, I would certainly go again if my concerns were addressed. Perhaps Loïc would like to give free tickets to Nicole Simon, Adam Tinworth and maybe even me. This would prove good faith and is a much better investment than spending it on old media journalists. And you can guaran-damn-tee that we aren't going to be influenced by the offer of free tickets. We'll give you conversational media till your fscking eyeballs fall out...

I'm not a bitter person. I'm cynical, but not bitter - there is a key difference there. Loïc: if you are in London, pop along to one of the many events I go to. I'll be happy to have a drink and chat about how to improve Le Web.

It would consist firstly in having a smaller event at a smaller venue. Secondly, it would have a separate business and technology/design track (ie. a suit track and a track where they discuss the important stuff). It would mean having moderators on panel discussions who would ask difficult questions. I volunteer to sit at the side of the stage and push a button whenever anyone says the phrase "user-generated content" that would make the screens flash and a big siren go off.

It's quite simple if you are a conference organiser. Put on an interesting event with interesting people saying interesting things and let people ask interesting questions. If you think you can do that, go for it. In the meantime, I'll be going to BarCamps and, maybe, XTech in '08. And if you are in a conference which sucks, please, please blog about it and tag it with "thisconferencesucks".
