All checked in at my hotel. It has wi-fi but only in the lobby. Still, for the amount I'm paying, it's not like I expected in-room wi-fi. Just would have been a neat bonus. 2006-12-10T16:07:58ZUntitled entry permalink

Yay. Apple hates us. Instead of fixing our computers, they tell us that we've got to drive or ride all the way to an AppleStore or repair centre to get our stuff fixed. How about this: FUCK YOU APPLE. 2006-12-10T16:25:57ZUntitled entry permalink

Web Worker Daily has discussions of the new Gmail Mail Fetcher feature. Gmail is crying out for IMAP, but I'm still looking forward to incoming POP3 support. 2006-12-10T09:09:35ZUntitled entry permalink

Samizdata is damn right about the new ban on rickshaws in Calcutta. It is inhuman to make money in voluntary transactions between people. Sorry, but I have far more respect for rickshaws than I do for politicians since they provide a service that people actually want. 2006-12-10T08:42:58ZUntitled entry permalink

Kosso is organising a Second Life party tonight at 8pm GMT, and has some folks visiting in First Life from the telly to film the proceedings. This could get interesting. Smile and a wink 2006-12-10T07:15:01ZUntitled entry permalink

Off to Le Web 2006-12-10T07:01:40ZPermalink

I'm up insanely early to get the train to Paris. The Eurostar goes at 9:07 GMT. I got up at 5am to leave at 6am for a 7am train to London to get there just before 8am. I prefer Eurostar to flying. When I last travelled on Eurostar, the procedure is a lot less of a nusiance than flying. You only have to get their 45 minutes before departure, and you don't have to bother with checking luggage in. They also have plug sockets available on most seats in standard class.

Update: They don't have plug sockets in standard class any more. Quite, quite annoying.

It'll be interesting to see whether the French let me in - I've got a couple of American stamps in my passport, although I'm sure stamps from sunny, liberal BOS shouldn't be a problem. I've also committed the cardinal sin of travellers and left my bloody headphones at home. I really hope Waterloo has somewhere open at 8am where I can buy headphones.

I'm meeting up with some folks for a pre-conference meal tonight. If you are at Le Web too and want to meet up with me, just post me a quick comment with your e-mail attached and I should be able to shoot right back to ya.
