I just got The Email. They've got loads wrong. If you've ordered a MacBook Pro and you're in the UK, you really ought to phone Apple tommorow. 0800 0391010. They're telling me that they're shipping me a 1.83 GHz, when they should be shipping a 2.0 GHz. Tommorow's call should be interesting. 2006-02-14T23:02:43ZUntitled entry permalink

So, the government have banned smoking in pubs. Perhaps I should smoke weed in the pub. First ID cards, then smoking bans. The government are really on authoritarian street this week. I suppose they took their lesson when the free speech people won over the "Muslim community". 2006-02-14T22:34:26ZUntitled entry permalink

Wow! A G4 Cube Server Farm. That's where they are hidden! 2006-02-14T21:37:05ZUntitled entry permalink

The current odds on the MacBook Pro shipping? "All bets are off." Indeed, I've seen reports of people who've ordered a 1.83 getting an email from Apple saying "Your order for a 1.6 has been upgraded to a 1.83". 2006-02-14T20:59:17ZUntitled entry permalink

Now, who's glad they didn't buy a Dell? Smile and a wink Basically, Apple are giving out inconsistent information to their customers and hoping that a speed upgrade will make people ignore their slipping shipping dates. 2006-02-14T20:16:01ZUntitled entry permalink

Apple have just updated my Order Details page. It's gone from Shipped by the 15th, Delivered by 22nd Feb to Shipped by Feb 28, Delivered by March 10th. They haven't upgraded the setup. I'm calling first thing tommorow morning at 9am. 2006-02-14T19:44:51ZUntitled entry permalink

I'm waiting for Apple to ship me my 9GHz laptop. I think I might have a long wait... 2006-02-14T17:32:48ZUntitled entry permalink

Apple are going crazy 2006-02-14T14:16:35ZTitled entry permalink

The MacBook Pros have been upgraded. Anyone who ordered a 1.83GHz is getting a 2.0GHz. I just called Apple and they said that my machine hasn't been shipped, but will be in my hands before next Wednesday. Bloody hell, does Steve Jobs know how to toy around with his customers. Smile and a wink Free speed upgrades is alright by me, though!

The US AppleStore has been updated, the UK one hasn't. And neither has my Order Status page. Check the Apple Support Discussion forums for more details.

Update: Apple have a press release announcing it. Again, check the forums for the full details.

OS X on PC 2006-02-14T22:19:12ZTitled entry permalink

Want a Valentine's present that doesn't involve hanging around for your Mac to be shipped? Read this. Installing OS X on a PC = done. Now just to install Windows on a Mac, and the whole computer world will go crazy. (Thanks, Max).

What does this actually mean? Not much. Look at that article. It's all about bootloaders and chips and SSE2. This means that a few geeks will install OS X on their PC's. And a few geeks will do stuff like put OS X on potato-powered PC's or fit it inside a Pringles can.

Joe User isn't going to be putting OS X on a PC. It's too complicated. They want their hands held. The above article is exciting for people who read Slashdot, not people who read People Magazine.

Joe User will buy what Dell or Apple puts in front of him. My mum isn't dual-booting Linux on her PC laptop. Why will she dual-boot Mac OS X on it? Apple's death isn't coming for a while...
